Today I am going to dive into Canada and Saskatchewan's rich history of bowling. Now, before we get into the nitty-gritty, let me share a little personal tidbit. I'm an avid bowler myself, and I absolutely adore being part of a mixed league 10-pin bowling team at the Glencairn Bolodrome. The camaraderie, the friendly competition, and the exhilaration of knocking down those pins—it's an absolute blast!
Speaking of bowling, I'm thrilled to announce that the owner of Glencairn Bolodrome will be joining me on my CJTR radio show, "Get Chatty With Kathy," which will be airing on August 30. We'll be chatting about all things bowling, reminiscing about the history of the sport, and perhaps even sharing some fun anecdotes. So mark your calendars and tune in—it's going to be a strike of a show! #GetChattyWithKathy #BowlingFun
Now, let's delve into the fascinating history of bowling in Canada and Saskatchewan. Did you know that bowling has been enjoyed in Canada for centuries? It's true! The game has its roots in ancient Egypt and Rome, but it was brought to Canada by European settlers and quickly gained popularity.
In Saskatchewan, bowling found its way into the hearts of locals in the early 20th century. The first bowling alleys sprouted up in major cities like Regina and Saskatoon, providing a fun and social pastime for people of all ages. It wasn't long before bowling leagues started forming, bringing together enthusiasts to compete and form lasting friendships.
Fast forward to the present day, and bowling remains a beloved sport in Saskatchewan. Whether you're a casual bowler looking to have a good time with friends or a seasoned pro aiming for that perfect score, there's a league and a lane for everyone. #BowlingLove #SaskatchewanPride
Now, let me take a moment to encourage all of you to consider joining a bowling league. Trust me, it's an experience like no other! Not only will you have a ton of fun, but you'll also get to meet new people, improve your bowling skills, and stay active, especially during those long and chilly winters that Saskatchewan is known for.
January and February, in particular, can be tough months with winter dragging on. That's why I believe those are the perfect times to join a bowling league. It's a fantastic way to beat the winter blues, get out of the house, and enjoy some friendly competition. Plus, it's a great excuse to treat yourself to some hot chocolate or a warm bowl of soup after a game! #BeatWinterBlues #BowlingLeagues
So, whether you're a seasoned bowler or someone who's never set foot in a bowling alley, I urge you to give it a shot. Bowling is a sport that brings people together, creates lasting memories, and allows you to challenge yourself in a fun and supportive environment.
And don't forget to mark your calendars for August 30, when the owner of Glencairn Bolodrome will be joining me on "Get Chatty With Kathy." We'll be discussing all things bowling, sharing exciting stories, and maybe even offering a few surprises along the way. You won't want to miss it! #TuneIn #BowlingStories
That's all for now, folks. Remember, life is like a bowling lane—full of twists, turns, and the occasional strike.

Saskatchewan’s winter warmth isn’t just about temperature; it’s about community, preparation, and a little bit of prairie magic. From heated hallways to home hibernation, from starting seedlings to layering up for the outdoors, we’ve found ways to make winter work for us. So next time someone asks if Saskatchewan winters are too cold, we can smile, knowing we’ve discovered a unique warmth that goes beyond the thermostat.
