This month, our blog has highlighted female entrepreneurs here in Regina. Amber Richards from Oxygen Yoga South, Candyce Bakke of My Life Planner, and Rhea Leibel artist of Work in Limbo- are all women that follow their passion and are working towards their best selves- and also a collaborator in The Rejuvenation Box.
This got us thinking about the women of Saskatchewan’s past. Think of the people living here in the 1900s- their lives were so different than how we live now. One person that made a significant impact on the lives of Saskatchewan and Canadian women was Violet McNaughton.
Violet lobbied multiple women’s groups in Saskatchewan to help push several issues, such as suffrage, health care, and education. She believed that working together as a community was key to progress. She was instrumental in forming the Saskatchewan Grain Growers Association as well as the Provincial Equality Franchise Board- which led to Saskatchewan being the second province in Canada to allow women the right to vote. We should note that this was caucasian women, as it wasn’t until 1960 that Indigenous women were allowed to cast a vote.
Journalism was Violet’s calling. She dedicated her life to sharing information so women were more informed. She also wanted to help women find fulfillment in their own lives.
It is interesting to reflect on this and consider how we are still on a similar path dealing with the same issues… even with all the advancements we have had over the past 100 years, we still need to advocate for equality for all, health care, and fulfillment in our lives. Without Violet, where would we be today?
If you or someone you know is a “history buff” – Remember that we love history here too! Our nod to Saskatchewan’s history includes coasters of Saskatchewan’s past, local books on our history, as well as images of grain elevators that will take you back. The beauty of a custom gift box is we make it any way you want. Gift giving made easy.

Saskatchewan’s winter warmth isn’t just about temperature; it’s about community, preparation, and a little bit of prairie magic. From heated hallways to home hibernation, from starting seedlings to layering up for the outdoors, we’ve found ways to make winter work for us. So next time someone asks if Saskatchewan winters are too cold, we can smile, knowing we’ve discovered a unique warmth that goes beyond the thermostat.
